A man was taken into custody on Wednesday after driving his van into a security barrier outside the White House. The incident occurred just before 6:30 a.m., and no injuries were reported, according to multiple sources.
The Secret Service stated that the driver crashed into the temporary security barrier near Madison Place and H Street Northwest in Washington D.C. Officers from the Secret Service’s uniformed division immediately apprehended the man, who was then being interviewed by investigators. Criminal charges are pending, though his identity has not been released.
A police bomb squad was called to the scene and determined the vehicle to be safe after checking it thoroughly. Various entrances and streets around the White House were temporarily closed as teams conducted their work following the incident.
